Nerve guides

The natural tissue bridge

QiGelTM nerve guides

Nerve guidance channels are artificial devices that bridge severed nerve ends with the aim to regenerate nerve functions. Current devices do not allow to bridge larger defects, and the materials used are potentially leading to complications such as nerve compression and long-term foreign-body reactions, so that conduits need to be surgically removed.

In animal studies Medovent's chitosan nerve guides have demonstrated stimulating effects for nerve regeneration. Chitosan allows the fabrication of collapse-stable conduits with degradation characteristics adjustable to clinical requirements.

Medovent's nerve guide

Medovent is currently completing its testing programme and expects to launch studies required for market approval in late 2010.
