Chitosan sutures not only guarantee long-term antibiotic efficacy due to intrinsic antimicrobial properties of the biopolymer. Skin sutures also allow for on-demand dissolution within a matter of hours (in contrast to the biodegradation process of sutures that takes weeks to months).
Medovent's surgical suture complies with the requirements of the European Pharmacopoeia. Medovent expects to receive European market approval in 2011.
