Our first products demonstrate superior functionalities
Medovent's proprietary manufacturing technology allows many applications for chitin and chitosan biopolymers. Our current product developments include multiple designs and functionalities. We also develop coatings for medical devices to improve biocompatibility and incorporate drugs for controlled release.
As a first product, Medovent has developed a biodegradable chitosan stent. In comparison to other devices, Medovent's unique stent combines superior features that overcome many significant limitations of current devices. In vivo tests demonstrate that the material:
- inhibits bacterial growth,
- enables controlled and complete biodegradation, and
- prevents local or systemic inflammation.
Several other device prototypes are currently tested for functionality, biocompatibility, degradation and sterilisation. Initial in vitro and in vivo investigations show superior properties for use as medical implants of a new generation.
