Sheets

Medovent's chitosan sheets

Mesh sheets are woven materials that are implanted into the body to stabilise defected tissue. Initially the mesh acts as scaffold to support the body tissue. It eventually becomes incorporated into the growing tissue.

Medovent's mesh

What do we do?

Together with our partner Gerster Techtex, Medovent is able to weave chitosan filaments to meshes. These medical textiles can be used for e.g. wound dressings, surgical meshes, in women's health and as scaffolds for tissues engineering. Our woven stents also support vascular grafting where they combine sturdiness with flexibility and controlled biodegradability.

What makes it special?

Medovent's biodegradable chitosan meshes are highly biocompatible and support cell proliferation and wound healing. The material can vary in strength and flexibility and degrade without releasing tissue-irritating side products.

Medical films are used for skin replacement, especially for treating burns and difficult to heal wounds like ulcers and diabetic foot. Here, besides creating an environment that stimulates tissue regeneration and growth, the limitation of infections is crucial for treatment success. Most commonly used are silver-containing wound dressings.

What do we do?

Medovent is able to produce films with superior intrinsic properties making them suitable for wound repair.

What makes it special?

Medovent's wound dressings on the basis of the biomaterial chitosan are both antibacterial as well as highly regenerative towards dermal cells and tissue. In addition, this innovative material is biodegradable, so that the often painful changes of the dressing can be omitted.

Medoderm GmbH, an affiliated company founded by Medovent in 2010, is focussed on bringing chitosan-based wound dressings to market.

Medovent's films can also be applied as anti-adhesion barriers and for dural repair.

Key features:

  • biocompatible
  • antibacterial
  • controlled degradable
  • no harmful degradation products
  • enhanced tissue regeneration
  • non-irritable to the skin
  • sterilisable
  • non-toxic
  • not cross-linked and therefore natural
